When writing messages keystrokes are missing and are not displayed?
This is a common and known problem of Internet Explorer and happens independent of the operation system and processing power of your computer. This is the broad agreement of many Windows administrators in different discussion forums.
In many cases Add-ons of Internet Explorer are considered to cause this problem and very often the Flash or Skype plug-ins are mentioned. The following steps could help to solve the problem:
- Update the Add-ons.
- Deactivate the Add-ons.
- Completely remove the Add-on.
To figure out which add-on causes the problem deactivate all Add-ons and then activate the Add-on one after the other. For more detailed information click on the second link at the end of this article - you get an instruction at the top of this thread.
Alternatively for quick initial test you can start Internet Explorer without loading Add-ons. To do this click on the Windows button in the left lower corner and search for "Internet Explorer". In the search results click on "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" to start Internet Explorer without loading Add-ons. Now try if you still have the problem. If not then the problem is caused by one of your Add-ons. Further options for a solution are:
- Uninstall Internet Explorer and install a new instance, or update it.
- Use Firefox browser - we recommend to try this as Firefox is a very fast and secure browser.
Besides the Add-ons viruses, malware or so called Browser Helper Objects (BHOs) can cause this problem. These you can remove with ad- or malware software. Contact your IT administrator for further help.
You can find further information in the Internet. E.g. search for "IE8 missing keystrokes". You will find a lot of threads of users (no conjectPM users) who have the same problems with Internet Explorer. The following threads about this topic are very helpful:
